Home Portraits

by Grammy Mouse

Over the years I have done a number of folk art home portraits for clients. I call them "home portraits" as opposed to the conventional term "house portraits" because they are more than the typical architectural rendering.  I strive to have these paintings have real personal meaning for the recipient so I pay close attention to all the specialized requests a client has such as inclusion of children, family pets, a favorite rose bush or bird house....... whatever it takes to make the painting special and let it tell the family story.  For me no detail is to small and no request too strange.

The home paintings are, for me, the most enjoyable painting I do.  I have a love of houses.  I grew up in my grandparents' colonial farmhouse that was built in 1769.  I knew every nook and cranny of the charming old place. The rippled antique glass in the windows, the granite steps, the beehive center chimney....I loved every detail of "The Haven" as the family had named it.  My husband was, in his working years, a finish carpenter and cabinetmaker.  Often I helped him with different remodeling jobs and understand the intricacies of home architecture more than the typical artist. The terms rake and fascia boards, soffits, gable ends, headers, and jambs are not foreign language to me. So I can render your home with an appreciation and understanding that will do your home justice.

The paintings are done in my folksy Americana style.  I add details like children, pets, favorite cars, motorcycles....whatever will make the painting special and meaningful for you. These paintings make a wonderful gift - perfect for the person that has everything.  They are a wonderful surprise for retired parents who are downsizing and selling the family homestead.  This is the chance to preserve all those cherished memories for them with a family heirloom that can be passed through the generations.  It's the perfect anniversary present and Christmas present.

Photos can be emailed to me and we keep in touch during the painting process by email so you can give me your input and I can ask you questions.  If you would like the recipient of the gift to be able to share in the process, we have gift certificates available that can be presented at the time of giving.  Then the recipient can take part in the painting and receive the exact rendering of their home they want by being able to have their input in the process.

You can view a number of the house portraits I have done below then email me to begin planning your home portrait, oh, and by the way,
