The Lighthouses of the Maine Coast including West Quoddy Head Light, Bass Harbor Light, Nubble Light, and Portland Head Light

Maine is famous for its rugged, rocky coast which, although majestically beautiful, was extremely dangerous for mariners to negotiate. Fisherman, whalers, windjammer captains and other sailors depended on the coastal lighthouses that dotted the Maine coast. Today there are 66 lighthouses along the Maine coast. Three are technically located in Canada but are either viewed best from or more easily accessed from coastal Maine. So come with us as we tour the lighthouses of Maine. As your tour guides we will try to give you pictures, history, and even directions to the ones that are accessible by land and are open to the public. We have organized this list into 7 "coastal clusters" to make it easier for you to locate the Maine lighthouse or lighthouses you are looking for. Information included will be location, accessibility (some are on remote Maine coastal islands), directions and times schedule for the ones that you can visit, photos, and a few facts and a little bit of history.
